Two Days in Krakow? No problem, - here is what to do!
“Don't listen to what they say, go see” ~ Chinese Proverb
Krakow is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland Situated on the Vistula river in lesser Poland Province and dates back to the 7th century. It is architectural stunning and has an abundant of cobbled streets and tourist attractions that provide a beautiful playground for an avid photographer or travel blogger.
On a trip to Czech Republic a few years back I decided to road trip to Krakow to visit Auschwitz. A sombre but fascinating place deeply saddened by a stricken history. As it was a flying visit, here are my Top Tips for a quick visit to Krakow and beyond.
Two Days in Krakow?
Day One - Settle in to the city by taking a stroll around the old main square which is surrounded by towering structures of historic beauty. The Cloth hall and St Mary’s Basilica stand tall and significant, while Wawel Royal Castle and Cathedral proudly sits on top of a hill symbolizing the protective structure of the city.
There are many canopy drawn cafes surrounding the old square which provides you with a perfect viewing point of the central point of the city. Take some time to relax and soak in the atmosphere over a latte!
Wawel Royal Castle & Cathedral
This royal architectural basilica of Saint Stanislaus & Wenceslaus on Wawel hill is a Roman catholic church and the coronation site of the polish monarchs. It also houses the royal tombs and local museum and is well worth a morning stroll to immerse yourself in the cities culture right away!
The Cloth hall * St Mary’s Basilica
The cloth hall, a Renaissance inspired structure is a central feature within the old town market square. It became an UNESCO heritage site in 1978 and it is only a short stroll to St Mary’s Basilica. This Gothic church which was built in the 14th century is a fantastically large structure that offers a beautiful backdrop for photographers on a sunny day!
Top your evening off by organizing a car rental for your trip tomorrow to Auschwitz (or research the 2.5hour train journey) and head back towards the bistros of the old square for an evening of culture!
Day Two
Auschwitz - Birkenau

Jut a short 1 hour rive from Krakow, Auschwitz still stands as one of the most famous tourist attractions in the region. History lovers will appreciate the remnants and artifacts that somberly tell the story of so many lost souls. There is a rule of silence throughout the entire grounds of Auschwitz, and this eerie feeling will stir up many emotions within a person as you walk on land where many lost their lives in years gone by.
You will need a few hours to walk the entire rounds and if you get a guided tour it may take a little longer. Don’t rush, - this place will stay with you forever.
Happy Travelling!
See you next wek!
