“Chasing Angels or Fleeing Demons, Go To The Mountains”
In times of turmoil, I turn to Nepal.
Nepal has a special place in my heart that my followers would have guessed by now from my previous blog posts. I have traveled extensively around the country and it keeps drawing me back year after year. There are so many different paths to follow in this vast country and it is a place a pure peace. It is the only place in the world that clears my mind and I would like to introduce you to a very important place to be, and that is the village of Talamarang. Here is a visual experience…
Talamarang is a village deep within the Sindhupalchok District in the Bagmati Zone of central Nepal. I first traveled here when I was 18, and ten years later it is still one of my favorite places in the world. A little bus trek out of the capital will bring you on the steps of natures paradise. The mountainous region is a refreshing stopping point delving into Nepali culture at its best. I have been volunteering at a Childens’ home in the area for the last ten years, and every time I return it grounds me to the point of humility. Being able to remove yourself from the materialistic 1st world we live in and be accepted into local culture of a country such as Nepal really heightens your awareness to our unnecessary commodities and taken for granted lifestyles that we lead. I keep photos and momentous above my work desk in my studio as a reminder, on those days when the stress feels like it is filling the room, - I just look up, and those smiling faces make me realize that we have very little to worry about.
SMK Studios will be putting on a photography portrait display as a follow up to my previous “Faces of Nepal” exhibition this Summer to help raise much needed finds for the “Little Angels Children Home” managed by Team Nepal, and here is a sneak peak -
