So here are some places of interests & things to plan for for your 2025 holidays!

Paris, France

Barcelona, Spain

Paris Must Do’s at Christmas Time

1. Explore the Christmas Markets
Paris transforms into a winter wonderland with countless Christmas markets scattered across the city. Visit the market at Les Halles or stroll down towards Notre-Dame where you will find some of the most quaint little park based Christmas markets. My ultimate favourite is of course the market at Tuileries Garden, just a short stroll from the door of the Louvre or from the Concorde on the opposite end. This is an area you could spend many a morning or afternoon! Don’t forget the go up on the Big Wheel for the best views of the city by night you romantics! Let’s not forget the mini winter wonderland of markets that appear at the foot of the Eiffel Tower of course. (A touch busier than the others but also a kind of must have!)

2. Admire the Christmas Lights
Take an evening walk to see the spectacular light displays that are around every corner. The Champs-Élysées, Galeries Lafayette, and Place Vendôme are particularly beautiful. The annual ‘Festival of Lights’ in Paris is a spectacular illumination that takes place within the grounds of the Natural History Museum, just a short metro ride away from the Notre-Dame area. (The perfect base by the way) It is well worth the evening stroll around with a hot chocolate!

3. Ice Skating
Many outdoor rinks pop up across the city during winter. The rink at the Eiffel Tower offers a unique skating experience with iconic views, while other rinks, like the one at Hôtel de Ville (City Hall), provide a festive atmosphere for skating as well as a mini one appearing at Tuileries Gardens.

What Else To Do?

1. Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower, completed in 1889, is an iconic symbol of Paris. . Visitors can ascend to viewing platforms for breath taking views of the city and its landmarks.

2. Notre-Dame Cathedral
This masterpiece of French Gothic architecture, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, is renowned for its stunning façade, intricate sculptures, and beautiful stained glass windows. It has officially reopened to the public nd advance booking of your tickets is advised. If you happen to not make it inside, I would recommend walking back towards the viewing platform and you will see a slightly secret stepped entrance into the crypt museum below. This is WELL worth a visit!

3. Louvre Museum
Originally a royal palace in the late 12th century, the Louvre is now the world's largest art museum. Its vast collection includes works from ancient civilizations to the 19th century, most notably the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.

4. Arc de Triomphe
Commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 to honor those who fought and died for France, this monumental arch stands at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. Climbing its steps provides a panoramic view of the city.

5. Sainte-Chapelle
Constructed in the 13th century, this gothic chapel is known for its stunning stained glass windows, depicting biblical scenes. It was built to house sacred relics and is a significant example of architectural achievement. Book your tickets in advance here. It is very difficult to buy on entry and the local police guard this area very well as government buildings surround the area. Unless you have proof of an online ticket, - you aren’t even getting close!

6. Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur
This historic district has been a hub for artists and musicians. The Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, completed in 1914, offers stunning views of Paris and contrasts beautifully with the colourful streets of Montmartre. Don’t forget to visit one of the oldest photobooths while you are there, but get there early as the Queue doesn’t take long to fill up! (see our previous blogs for more info!)

7. Pantheon
Originally a church, the Pantheon now serves as a mausoleum for some of France’s most esteemed figures, including Voltaire and Rousseau. Its neoclassical architecture and crypts offer a glimpse into the nation’s intellectual history.

8. Palais Garnier
This opulent opera house, completed in 1875, is a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts architecture. Its lavish interiors and grand staircase reflect the artistic ambitions of the era, and it remains a cultural venue for performances to this day.

..I could go on for days!

Pont Neuf Bridge

Now…..onto Spain!

Once that New Year rang in we were in the car and off to Dublin airport once again!

Well, you are supposed to be doing exactly what you want your year to look like on January 1st right?

So, why not start it off travelling!

We landed into a sunny Barcelona (and somehow manage to just miss the bad Irish freeze!) Jumped straight into a rental car and hit the road to the sunny seaside of Salou! (Barcelona, we will be back in a few days!!)

Things to Do in Salou

  1. PortAventura World: A major attraction in Salou, this large theme park features thrilling rides, entertaining shows, and themed areas. We stayed in Colorado Creek & would highly recommend. It is just as much fun for adults as it is children, trust me!

Making it your extension of Christmas is the perfect way to ease yourself into the New Year. Each night prior to Jan 6th there is a Christmas parade with fireworks and water show which you cannot miss! Download the app while there to keep track of all the times of shows and events taking place.

  2. Salou Beaches: Enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches such as Playa de Levante and Playa de Ponent. These beaches offer facilities like sunbeds, beach bars, and water sports during the Summer time but during the Winter it is just as lovely with a real local atmosphere and a select number of lovely quaint beach restaurants to chose from.

  3. Camino de Ronda: Take a scenic walk along this coastal path that offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, rocky coves, and opportunities for photography.

  4. At Christmas time, enjoy the 5th of January parade in the centre where the traditionally three kings arrive with gifts! It is a great night to be around the local area but would def recommend pre booking your dinner reservations as it can be quite busy!
