Riga Is Calling….
As the flurries of snow start to roll in, you can start to appreciate the Medieval architecture that engulfs this UNESCO world heritage city. The old town centre Vecrīga, is the perfect starting point for your Riga adventure with its entanglement of cobbled streets and high arching curved doorways. A city enveloped in Art Nouveau with over 800 standing structures remaining is enough to entertain any photographer!

St Peter’s Church & The Riga Dome Cathedral
Overlooking the old town centre, this 123-meter towered Lutheran church stands majestically amidst the backdrop of Medieval architecture as it boasts varying styles Baroque and Romanesque stonework. You can visit the church which boasts a quaint museum with observation tower for a fantastic 360 degree view of the city! The Riga Dome Cathedral or as also known in Latvia as “Rīgas Doms” or also “Doma Baznīca” is the largest place of worship in Latvia and the Baltics.
The Freedom Monument
Just a short stroll from Riga’s old city centre stands the Freedom Monument, - guarding the Bastejkalna parks. This landmark stands in remembrance of the Latvia War of independent, standing at 42 meters high and is visible from most central areas of Riga acting lie a guide. It is impossible to get lost in this city!
Bastejkalna Parks
Although the abundance of snow turned these parks into a bobsleigh icepark, you could still appreciate the beauty that lay underneath. A little getaway from the hustle of the city lying as the marker between old and new Riga. The Pilsētas Kanāls (canal) runs through and homes the city wildlife.
The Three Brothers
These three buildings represent the oldest documented complex of houses standing in Riga, situated at 17,19 and 21 Mazā Pils Street. They date from the 15th century and provide any photographer with inspiration.
Riga Central Market
Riga market is just a quick 10 minute taxi ride from Riga’s old city and boasts the perfect Sunday morning plan. Fresh coffee, handmade pastries of all shapes and sizes and every fresh ingredient you could ever dream of. It is one of the largest indoor markets in Eastern Europe and is just as impressive as it sounds. The buildings which host these market stalls are repurposed Zeppelin hangers and give you a glimpse into times gone by.
Swedish Gate
This picturesque sole surviving gate of the original eight that made up part of the stronghold that was the Riga walled city boasts a popular tourist attraction today. It was maintained as it housed the city executioner and so managed to survive the years of turmoil and the destruction the other entry points to the city fell upon.
The Nativity Of Christ Cathedral
The golden domed Orthodox serving building that was established while Latvia was part of the Russian empire stands beautiful amongst the backdrop of Medieval architecture and cannot be missed!
The Corner House / KGB Building
A well worthwhile guided tour of the historic building in the city center of Riga, Latvia. It was known as the headquarters of the Soviet KGB in Latvia from 1940 to 1941 and from 1944 to 1991.
