1st Birthday Cake Smash - what to expect?

And what is more appropriate for one of the major milestones of your child? - a first birthday cake smash birthday session!!
at SMK Studios we provide the perfect environment for a fun and messy birthday session. Being one of our most popular shoots, we have perfected the cake smash routine and want to share the experience with you. We supply a variety of setups for boys and girls and of course…CAKE!
When To book?
We advise our clients to make your initial enquiry ASAP! As part of our baby milestone packages we offer newborn photography, 9 month sitters and the cake smash is your final step in your package. This allows you to sit back and relax while we arrange everything and send you reminders along the way. Many family members purchase this year long package as a gift for an expectant mother and it is a beautiful thought!
If you missed out on the baby packages offer, then booking your cake smash should be done with at least 2-3 months notice, (the more notice the better). We sell out super fast and hate saying no to people so the sooner you shoot us a message the better!!
Once you have booked your cake smash we will then discus the various options with you for your day. This includes the setup/background used and the props included.
What about the cake?
We supply an arrangement of buns and sweets for every shoot. (It’s all about the cream!!) We give the option to purchase medium or large cakes for a small fee. These must be booked 2 weeks prior to your shoot and information about this is given upon initial booking.
What do I wear?
We always advise our clients to dress their child in a plain outfit (your clean one for going home in!) Bringing your “Birthday” outfit prevents it from getting messy en-route to us. Your birthday outfit is an absolute personal choice. The girls love their bright colours and tutus, - where the boys usually love their dungarees and suspenders! We are always here to offer advice but then again, it is a personal preference! We advise client to bring one more spare outfit of choice but bear in mind, it will be messy!! We always have wipes, towels and plastic bags at hand ready to go!
What else should I bring?
Your favorite teddy, birthday gift, important blanket! Basically anything that could fit into the shoot that you do not mind getting cake on!
*Note : Cake Smash shoots take up to 1 hour and are a 1 background setup.
*Allergies will be discussed prior to the appointment
*Please inquire as to our policy details and T&C of your appointment
*If you wish to involve your family/pets in the shoot, - this must be discussed with SMK Studios prior to the appointment.
